Go Racing welcomed two new Group 1 Performers to our ranks with the performances of Prince Mambo (2nd) and Passing Shot (4th) in the $225,000 Group 1 Oaks Stud Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes over 1400 metres on Saturday at Manawatu.
Trainer Stephen Mckee couldn’t split the two colts going into the race and both had different runs in transit. Prince Mambo settled just behind midfield and was held up before the home turn. When he got clear he charged home, eating into the winner O’Marilyn’s lead (also trained by Stephen McKee) and went within a long neck of taking out the race.
Passing Shot settled in a beautiful position in the one-one but suffered buffering at the 300 metres when trying to get clear and was knocked off balance. Once he re-gained his balance he attacked the line for 4th and with a clear run would have run in the first three. Both colts took a long time to be pulled up and look ideal Guineas prospects as three-year-olds.
They will both now go to the paddock and have done their owners proud this season. They will return to training at the end of May and will be aimed to commence their three-year-old season at the end of winter or just into the start of spring.
