Go Racing will have two genuine chances in this weekends Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes at Manawatu.
The Sires Produce, worth $225,000 is the second Group 1 race for two-year-olds in New Zealand and is raced over 1400 metres, the first time these babies have stepped up to this distance. This years field looks very even with Go Racing having Matamata Slipper winner Prince Mambo and last start Trentham winner Passing Shot contesting the race.
Both horses are trained by Stephen Mckee and go into the race peaking for Saturday. They are very hard to split says Go Racing’s Albert Bosma “The only difference between them is that Passing Shot has drawn well wheras Prince Mambo has drawn wide. That may give Passing Shot a slight advantage, but either can win.”
“They have both worked in side winkers this week and it has them focussed, so they will wear them this Saturday”. Prince Mambo was unlucky in The Group 1 Haunui Farm Diamond Stakes when he was pushed into the running rail twice in the straight and jockey Michael Walker felt that he would have run in the first three with a clear run. He will be ridden by Danielle Johnson this weekend who sits 5th on the jockeys premiership.
Passing Shot was an impressive winner at his last start and ran strongly thorugh the 1200 metres, so the 1400 metres of Saturdays race should suit him. He will be ridden by proven Group 1 jockey Jonathon Riddell.
