This Saturday Prince Mambo will represent Go Racing’s defence of the $200,000 Group 1 Haunui Farm Diamond Stakes for two-year-olds. Last year Ruud Awakening won the 1200m race before her attempt at the world’s richest two-year-old race, the Golden Slipper in Sydney.
Prince Mambo goes into the race off a strong win in the Listed Reid & Harrison Slipper on 22 February over the same distance. In form jockey Michael Walker will be on board for the first time and will be looking to make it a Group 1 double for the week after winning the Derby last weekend.
According to Racing Manager Albert Bosma, while the horse appears to perform better on a left handed course, “he’s certainly no slouch right-handed.”
Says Albert, “Prince Mambo had no luck in the Karaka Million when he was checked and a horse fell in front of him. He’s ready for this race and is peaking at the right time.”
According to champion trainer Stephen McKee he has continued to improve with each run this preparation and he galloped well on Tuesday. He has drawn barrier 2 which is a good assist to his chances and should allow him to race in a nice spot.
The race is at 3.46pm on Saturday.
