Go Racing is pleased to be sponsoring the Group 2, 2400 metre, Avondale Cup at Ellerslie this Saturday.
First run in 1890, the Cup is now a key race on the calendar leading up to the Auckland Cup. Stake money has also increased this year to $100,000 – an increase of $15,000 on last year’s race.
Says Racing Manager Albert Bosma, “We’re proud to be behind the race and to be able to support the industry that we love.”
It has drawn a top quality field with former Derby winner Military Move, New Zealand Oaks and Waikato Cup winner More Than Sacred, and Auckland Cup place-getter from last year, Chaparrone contesting the event. The race has an added dimension as in addition to these proven stayers, there is the up-and-comers: King Kamada, Who Shot Thebarman and Deane Martin. “It is a true Group race with horses from the Deep South, Central Districts and Far North running. I believe it may be the best staying field we have seen in New Zealand this season.”
Says Albert, “We’ve committed to sponsorship with the Auckland Racing Club for two years. We want to see the industry get stronger so we’re prepared to give back.”
