The tiger roars

Taipa Tiger proved what a promising stayer in the making he is after breaking through for his maiden victory at Wanganui yesterday.

The son of Thorn Park justified being sent out a $2.40 favourite, scoring by just under half a length in the Raceway Motel 1600 metre event on a good 3 surface. Beautifully ridden by Darryl Bradley, Taipa Tiger hit the front soon after turning for home and had to fight off the determined Shadow Player to record his first victory from his 17th race day start. He has not always had the best of luck in his races but has always been consistent.  As syndicate manager Albert Bosma says “We have given him a long slow build up this time in and it looks to have paid dividends as his fresh up run for 2nd was excellent and to back that up with a good tough win bodes well for his future racing. He has come back in a lot stronger this campaign and we think he will get even better the more ground he goes over”.

He has been a very consistent horse having previously run seven 2nds and three 3rds and yesterday’s win could prove to be the turning point in his career. “We will now assess how he has come through this race and all going well we may look to step him up over 2000 metres at his next start. It is amazing what confidence can do for a horse and I am sure he will take a lot out of yesterday’s victory. He is such a big horse he has lacked a bit of strength in the past, and now he is stronger we think he will develop in to a very nice stayer.” says Albert.
