Severine continued Go Racing’s successful run with a win in the Couplands Bakeries Handicap (1400m) at Kurow on Wednesday.

Following on from wins by Mighty Aslan, Might, Raposa Rapida and Loose Cannon this month, Severine added a fifth win to the Go Racing tally for December.

Though disappointing last start, the Pins mare had put in a good effort to finish sixth in the Gr.3 Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes (1400m) last month.

“I was pretty confident Severine would run well,” trainer Andrew Carston said. “Two starts ago she wasn’t beaten far in the Group Three race.

“Her last start was a bit of a head scratcher, but I just felt she dropped out the back and switched off and didn’t get interested. She has trained on well.

“I’ll talk to the team at Go Racing to work out a plan, but she is a pretty forward mare now and we may think about aiming a bit higher but will see how she comes through this.

“Go Racing are one of my biggest supporters, so it is great to have another winner for them.”

Severine was purchased out of Waikato Stud’s 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock draft as a yearling and is raced by the Go Racing French Cutlet Syndicate which includes trainers Stephen McKee, Stephen Marsh and Lisa Latta in the ownership.

“She ran a beauty in the Canterbury Breeders’ during Cup Week and was unlucky that day,” Go Racing’s Matt Allnutt said. “She seems to be getting better with every preparation and with that ownership group Andrew gets no shortage of advice and good humoured banter. - Picket Fence
