Charlie comes to Town

Charlestown is set to race in his first Group One in the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes this Saturday.

Charlestown easily won his maiden in Woodville in January, ran second in the Group 2 Wakefield Stakes behind the Sires Produce favourite, Recite, and ran in the Karaka Million to round out a busy month.

Says Racing Manager, Albert Bosma, “He’s a talented horse. His last start at Trentham was disappointing as he led easily but never kicked in the straight. He dipped on the turn and we wondered if it just caused him to lose momentum. He’s come through the race with no problems and galloped well today. We have no reason not to aim him at the Group 1 if we take his last start as a one off anomoly.”

Robert Hannam will ride and after this race Charlestown will spell.

“Charlestown has a lot of scope and will develop into a lovely 3 year old,” predicts Bosma.
