Mighty recovery

It’s been a long road back to full fitness for Mighty Aslan but his trial at Avondale last week was a joy to see for his team of dedicated rehabilitators.

Mighty Aslan had a run in with a fence as a two-year-old and, while that healed, the wound continued to weep, making surgery necessary. This held him up with skin grafts which took a considerable amount of time to take and grow, holding him up until his four-year-old year.

Trainer Stephen McKee is rapt to have him on the track “He’s a horse of real ability and has shown he can really gallop. He is a real dude and both the stable and owners knew we had to do whatever it took.”

What it took was the nearly two years of rehab. “Hats off to Alison Henry at Maara Grange who really put the hard yards in with him. She really cares and does a fantastic job” said Syndicate Manager Albert Bosma.

His trial at Avondale delighted his connections. “He just looked fantastic and his action was lovely and smooth. Even though he missed the start by eight lengths he caught the field and just blew out at the end.”

Most importantly he has come through sound as a bell and he’s a happy horse to be back on the race track. “He will trial again on the 4th of December before debuting and we think he is a stayer of real promise.”
