It’s been a long wait but patience and persistence has paid off for Go Racing trainer Stephen Marsh with the son of O’Reilly out of the successful producing mare Cancan.
The bay gelding O’HeCan won at Avondale last Friday over 1200 metres but that alone didn’t tell the full story of getting him to the races.
“He’s had a lot of problems and had to undergo surgery as a two year old. So it was only his second race day as a four- year-old but he’d shown a lot of ability winning two trials, both impressively.”
Racing Manager Albert Bosma is rapt that the horse has come right. “While it was reasonably close race on Friday that is only due to his inexperience. He’s a horse we think will handle a bit of cut in the track. And he can certainly go further – we think he can be a good 2000 metre horse.”
“It was a great ride by Troy Harris who got him in a good spot out of the trail and drove him to the line. Troy said while it was close, he had more in the tank.”
He has a promising future and we believe he can go through the grades. His next race is likely to be in three weeks’ time either over 1400 metres or a mile.
