Hasabro to have a go!

In the racing calendar spring is one of the most exciting times of the year with the build up to the big carnivals both here and in Australia getting underway.

It is also the time of the year when two-year-olds start stepping out and the first of Go Racing’s 2017 purchases will debut at Ruakaka tomorrow over 900 metres. Hasabro (Savabeel x Halloween) is a full-brother to last season’s well-performed two-year-old Hasahalo who won the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes as well as running 2nd in the Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes and the Karaka Million.

Racing Manager Matt Allnutt says, “We were thrilled with what Hasahalo did as a two-year-old last season and once we saw Hasabro at the sales, we were always going to buy him. He had so many of the attributes we liked about Hasahalo and he was just a slightly bigger version of her. We purchased him for $220,000 and were prepared to pay more as we just love this family. He has the same athleticism as his sister and the way he covers the ground is very impressive”.

Hasabro has had one trial to prepare for tomorrow’s race and with it being a field of just 6 runners; it looks to be a good way to kick off his racing career. Stephen McKee is happy with him going into the race although he does believe he will also improve a lot for the experience. “I was happy with how he trialled at Avondale and the way he has trained on since then has been very encouraging. Things have worked out well and it wouldn’t surprise me if the two-year-old trial fields at Ruakaka next week are bigger than the field he faces tomorrow”.

A lot of the Hasahalo syndicate are also involved in the ownership of Hasabro and good luck to all connections for Wednesday’s race.
