Black Pearl sweeps bonus

Go Racing trainer Stephen Marsh has always had a way with the fillies. He demonstrated this again with the maiden win of 4YO Black Pearl (Savabeel x Waimarie Lass) in the fillies and mares 1400 at Waipa last Friday.

Fittingly Black Pearl was eligible for the Pearl Bonus of $11,500 on top of the winning stake of $7,500 making the race extra fruitful for her delighted owners.

Says Racing Manager Albert Bosma “The Pearl Bonus series is a great initiative from NZB and adds that extra incentive for owners to race their horses. We make sure all Go Racing fillies bought from Karaka are signed up.”

Stephen Marsh was pleased with the win. “She is still very much a work in progress. But her last run for 5th was a good effort after being forced to race wide and indicated she was ready to step up this time. We think she has a big future as she steps up over more ground.”

She showed early speed from barrier 8 to slot into second position. She looked under pressure with 450m to go but found her second wind. She was challenged on the line and fought hard to get up.

Bosma was impressed, “The second place getter, Trail Blazer, looks like a smart horse. It beat Raposa Rapida (Foxwedge x Bardego) form Stephen’s stable which we have a high opinion of in its first start and has been in a stakes race so she was in good company. She will gain much needed confidence from this win.”

She’s been bright and happy since the win and will next race on the 24th of September where she will compete in a rating 65 fillies and mares mile worth $25,000 with again a $20,000 Pearl Bonus attached. It’s all in the name!
