Third Time Lucky At Trentham

You could say Darci Brama filly, Lucky Country has been a touch unlucky in her last two starts at Trentham. She ran second in the Group 3 Wellington Stakes on 19 January and was the subject of a heart-stopping photo finish in the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes where she was beaten by the bob of a head.

However, Lucky Country can use all her Trentham experience as she lines up for the Group 1 NZ Oaks worth $300,000 on 16 March.

Syndicate Manager, Albert Bosma, is hoping for third time lucky.

“She’s shown she is a terrific horse winning two races as the start of the season and backing up for two Group seconds in a week. You never know if they can run 2400m till they try, but she’s a very tractable filly who relaxes well so she’s the perfect type for this race.”

The filly was bought for a modest $25,000 from the Oaks Stud and is trained by Cambridge-based Stephen Marsh.
