Passing Shot defends his title at Hastings this Saturday in the 1200 metre Listed City of Napier Sprint.
Says trainer Stephen McKee “Although this is the last race in this campaign, he is still firing on all cylinders. He attacked his fast work on Tuesday morning with his ears pricked so he is feeling pretty good. This was his final race last season and we are obviously hoping to repeat that success again this weekend.”
The five year old gelding is coming off a good last start second at Ellerslie on a track that was unsuitably wet for him. He was well-rated in front by Leith Innes and after looking to be in trouble at the 200 metres mark, put his head down and fought hard right to the line.
Racing Manager Albert Bosma initially thought Ellerslie would be the last run of this campaign, but on the strength of that performance, and the spring in his step, he will run in Hastings for good prize money of $50,000.
“He should do quite well at the weights at around 56 kilos and Alysha Collett, who is second the premiership, will ride. It will be a sweet Easter treat if he can do it again.”
