North and South is peaking nicely in her preparation for the listed Opunake Cup worth $65,000 at New Plymouth this Saturday over 1400 metres.
“Her track worker has been very impressed. She had a decent hit out in company last Thursday in very wet conditions on the grass and worked superbly. She’s a very clean winded horse so hasn’t needed much since, just a couple of quiet gallops on her own. She’s ready to go,” says Racing Manager Albert Bosma
In her pursuit of black type there are several things in her favour: the distance really suits, she has raced well at Pukekura before, and she will get a good weight of 53.5 kilos.
“While she hasn’t raced for four weeks we know she performs well fresh up and has worked well in the lead up. She prefers a loose track so any rain on the day will suit her. After Saturday she is likely to go to Riccarton for the Group 3 Winter Cup worth $100,000. Black type is what we want for this seasoned campaigner,” Bosma concludes.
Masa Tanaka will ride following regular jock Robbie Hannam’s suspension.
