A win has indeed proven elusive recently for Elusive Boxers but she had an impressive change of luck at Oamaru on Sunday in a rating 65 1200 metres.
It could have been the biting wind that encouraged her fast turn of foot, as rider Kylie Williams followed her instructions to the letter, put a surge on at the 800 metres mark to lead the rest of the way by over four lengths.
“She rose above her barrier draw of 8 and completely outclassed the field. We always knew she had ability and just needed a change in luck,” says Racing Manager Matt Allnutt who risked frost bite on course.
She beat favourite Margarita Mover and paid $13, which has always been a lucky dividend for horses with the ‘Boxer’ moniker. Third place getter was Fade to Grey.
The race was worth $25,000 but had a significant $20,000 Pearl Bonus attached so was a very valuable win for her.
Her soujourn on the South Island circuit has paid off and the plan now is to spell her for a month and bring her back for spring racing.
