There is a stack of girl power in the Go Racing runners line-up this week.
Frazzle runs fresh up at Wanganui in a maiden for fillies and mares over 1200 metres. She is ready to run well fresh-up and, as it is a Pearl Bonus race, she is running for a $10,000 bonus as well as the thick end of the $12,000 stake. Top central districts jockey Johnathan Parkes is on board and she has drawn nicely in heavy conditions with barrier 9.
Our two ladies on the South Island circuit both compete at Ashburton on Friday. The track is dead which is a bonus as both will like it that way.
Pinzano (pictured) won by three lengths last start and has been full of herself ever since. She will run in the rating 75 1200 metres worth $22,500. Elusive Boxers was a fast finishing fourth last start and will run in the rating 65 1400 metres worth $20,000. Expectations are high for both performances although Elusive Boxers has the visitor’s draw of 17.
On Saturday Sharp Elle heads to the winter-less north to compete at 1600 metres which should be to her preference. Her last race, where she finished a solid sixth over 1400 metres, was designed as a stepping stone in this campaign and was her fresh up run since November last year. She too has unfortunately drawn wide with barrier 13, which isn’t ideal, but she has the addition of blinkers and a tongue-tie which will help her focus.
Finally, one ‘thorn’ among the roses is gelding Taipa Tiger who competes on his Awapuni home track over 2100 metres. He’s been looking for a step up in distance and his performance here will determine whether he continues to race on the flat or switches to hurdles for the rest of the season. The distance suits, but on a very heavy track we would have prefrerred him to draw wide, rather than barrier 1 so he could get out into the better going.
Best of luck to all our runners and owners.
