Go Racing will have a two-pronged quality attack on The Championships in Sydney this Saturday and a great crew heading over to support.
What’s The Story tackles the $2,000,000 Group 1 Australian Derby as the 5th favourite behind the odds-on Tarzino, winner of the VRC Derby and Rosehill Guineas. He has drawn well in barrier 4 which may be important in a Derby which looks like it may lack a bit of speed.
The son of Savabeel has trained well since his 2nd in The New Zealand Derby and showed an excellent turn of foot in his final gallop on Tuesday.
“His final sectional in the Derby was scintillating” says Syndicate Manager Albert Bosma. “He ran the fastest last 200 metres of the race and only one horse in each of the big sprints that day, The Darley Plate and Mr Tiz Trophy ran a faster last 200 metres than him. He’s bred to run the distance and has an excellent turn of foot and that makes him a chance.”
Two things aren’t ideal this Saturday. His flight has been delayed until Thursday night and he would prefer a good track, which he is unlikely to get. Top Sydney rider Blake Shinn will guide him in The Derby on Saturday.
No More Tears is entered for the Group 3 P J Bell Stakes over 1200 metres but may not run as she has drawn barrier 19 in a field of 19. She too has been delayed and will arrive in Sydney on Thursday night. The daughter of Darci Brahma is very talented and was a dominant winner of The Group 3 Mr Tiz Trophy at her last start.
She is unbeaten on wet tracks and if the track remains quite wet, she may run and the draw may not be such a hindrance. A decision on whether she starts will be made on Saturday morning. Top jockey Zac Purton will ride.
If she doesn’t start, she will likely run in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick for fillies and mares over 1200 metres next Saturday the 9th of April.
