Charlestown Bolts In

Two-year-old Charlestown stamped himself as a horse to be reckoned with in the upcoming big two-year-old races with a decisive win in the Crowley Forge Master Farrier two-year-old maiden at Woodville on Saturday. He was ridden out of the barriers to lead and then trail, with the first three horses putting a gap on the rest of the field. He sprinted hard when a gap opened on the rail around the home turn and put six or seven lengths on the field before Robbie Hannam was able to ease up on him for a soft win.

He is the second individual winner for the Vinery Stud Stallion Myboycharlie, a Group 1 winner in France as a two-year-old. Charlestown is out of Princess Carolina, a More Than Ready mare that won twice in Australia at 1200 metres, so he is bred to be quick.

Charlestown will now race in The Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes for 2yo’s over 1200 metres at Trentham on the 19th of January. He is also in the running for the Karaka Million at Ellerslie eight days later, where he is 14th qualifier after his win at Woodville.
