The winning roll continued for mighty Solomon when he renewed his rivalry with the talented Kawi at Trentham on Saturday.
He is a horse that is improving with every race and this was his most professional performance to date in his career. He had to be brave to to take the narrow gap on the rail that presented itself in the straight, as did jockey Kelly Myers. At that stage Kawi had a length on him and he showed his wonderful turn of foot to make up a length over the last 100 metres and win on the line.
Says Manager Albert Bosma “The key was the turn around in the weight scale. He was 1.5 kilos better off against Kawi this start as opposed to last when he was only beaten a head. I was surprised none of the form analysts realised this was a significant swing. We also have a horse that is getting better all of the time and he will improve again with this run.”
Trainer Lisa Latta laid out plans for him. “He only needs one more run before the Group 1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham on the 24th of January and that will be at Awapuni on an open 1400 metres on the 10th of January. The change in conditions may mean he is walking a tight rope to make the field, but we don’t want to compromise his chances by throwing an extra run in, just to make the field.”
It was Mighty Solomons 5th win from 12 starts and took his prize money won to $84,000.
