Three super smart horses line up in strong races this weekend.
Ruud Awakening competes in the Group 3 Concorde Handicap at Ellerslie over 1200 metres, where she has drawn wide in barrier 9. It is the second start in her campaign aimed at the Group 1 Railway Handicap and we’re pleased to have Matt Cameron on board as regular rider Danielle Johnson will be riding at Trentham.
Says Albert, “She’s impoved with the fresh up run and is unbeaten at Ellerslie. We’re hoping to maintain that record.”
Exciting last start winner Billy Mojo runs in the Group 2 Wakefield Stakes at Trentham over 1100 metres for the bid stake of $100,000. He was destined for a well-deserved spell in the paddock but was so full of energy that we have elected to run in the Wakefield Stakes before he has a break.
Says Albert, “It will be a big trip down for little Billy but a popular one for his owners, a good portion of whom live in the capital. We’ve got champion jockey Opie Bosson on board who will help his cause.”
Following the race he’ll have a week off before starting his preparation for the Karaka Millions.
Finally the talented Might Solomon will compete in a rating 85 1400 metres worth $30,000 after six weeks between runs. He had a small break following his last start and this is his first start back in a four race campaign leading to the Thorndon Mile.
Says Albert, “He’ll compete against Kawi again (also heading to Thorndon Mile) but meets him a kilo and a half better off than last start when Kawi just beat him by a head. We have Kelly Meyers riding with a view to her riding him at the light weight he will get in the Thorndon Mile.”
