Starring role for Whatastar

Following an unfortunate late scratching at the barrier three weeks ago, Whatastar will finally debut at Riccarton on Saturday in the Listed Welcome Stakes worth $50,000.

Says trainer Lisa Latta, “Very few two-year-olds debut in a Listed race but following a successful trial this week and given her professionalism and improvement she deserves her spot.”

Indications from across the Tasman suggest she will be one to watch. Her sire, Captain Rio, is in form with his son Terravista winning the $1 million Darley Classic at Flemington on 8 November.

Rain is forecast for Christchurch but Latta is unconcerned as she believes the filly has the ability to handle any type of track conditions. Kylie Williams who is in excellent form at the carnival will ride and it is great to have one of south island’s leading riders on board.
