Prince Mambo showed he is on target for the Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas at Riccarton on the 8th of November with a fast finishing 2nd in the Group 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas at Hastings on Saturday.
Prince Mambo wound up late to just miss winning the Group 2 feature by a half head and give every indication that the mile at Riccarton will suit him perfectly. The step up in distance from his first run this campaign to 1400 metres was a key and he had come on lengths in the three weeks between runs.
He will have one more run before the Guineas which will be in the Group 3 Annie Sarten Memorial at Te Rapa on the 27th of October over 1400 metres. He is looking for 1600 metres now, but we want the Guineas to be his first start over that distance, which is why he is going to the Annie Sarten. This will make it extremely difficult for him to win this race, but if he is hitting the line hard we will have him spot on for the 8th of November.
