Mighty Solomon lived up to his name on Saturday with his second win from as many starts as a four-year-old.
He kicked off his campaign with a win over 1200 metres when showing a devestating turn of foot at Awapuni on the 13th of September and was just as impressive winning over 1400 metres at the iconic Hawkes Bay Classic meeting in a time of 1.21.36 seconds. He was able to put the field away in a matter of strides after getting clear at the 300 metres and under 58.5 kilograms it is a run that suggests he will enjoy going further.
Jockey Jonathon Riddell commented that he has an “explosive turn of foot” and is “a serious racehorse.” He is a horse that has always shown enormous ability, but he just lacked a little mental maturity as a three-year-old and the decision to geld him in his spell may have been the making of him. His action has changed as a four-year-old and he has strengthened into an impressive individual.
His long term aim will be the Group 1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham on the 25th of January and he will next race at Awapuni on the 1st of November in a Rating 85 1600 metres.
