Lightning Strikes

Miss Lightning commenced a new campaign with an impressive victory at Otaki on Thursday.

It was a well deserved win after four placings and three times being the bridesmaid. She had always been competitive throughout her career, but just lacked maturity and strength to finish her races off. She had noticeably changed shape in this last spell and looked a different horse in the parade ring.

She was fast away from the barriers and led before trailing. She kicked hard on the corner and wheras in previous seasons she had lacked the strength to find the line, on Thursday she just keep kicking and ran through the line strongly. Her win came off the back of a jump out victory two weeks earlier and she will have gained a lot of confidence from these last two runs. Both her jockey that day Robbie Hannam and Darryl  radley on Thursday said she feels a different horse and is significantly stronger.

She will next head to Tauherenikau on the 9th of October where she will run in a Rating 65 1000 metres and we will see if lighning can strike twice! She then may have a trip south as we are giving serious consideration to sending her to Riccarton for New Zealand Cup week, where there are suitable races for her on the first and third days of the meeting.
