Sadlers Rock rolls into the big time

Promising stayer Sadler’s Rock steps into the big time this Saturday when he contests the Group 3 Hawkes Bay Cup at Hastings.

‘Rocky’ as he is known goes into the race off the back of good form after winning a Rating 85 2200 metre race on Premier Day at Wellington on the 15th of March and followed this up with a good 2nd in the Hawkes Bay Cup trial on the 5th of April.

Trainer Lisa Latta says he is going into this race peaking “He has thrived in the last two weeks and usually maintains his form once he hits his straps. The concern is the track conditions as he performs best on a firm surface, but we are unlikley to get better conditions as the weather looks to have turned, so he is very likely to run”.

Syndicate Manager Albert Bosma points out that he is racing at his best distance “He has had three wins and one second from five starts over 2200 metres, so performs very well at this distance. He is a true grinding stayer and can have a relentless finish, so that gives us some hope on what is likely to be a heavy track”.

In form jockey Jonathon Parkes will ride him and the two get on well with a win and two seconds together this campaign. The race is at 4.16pm on Saturday
