Karaka yearling sales 2020

Karaka yearling sales 2020

The Go Racing Team are excited as they prepare for the Karaka yearling sales starting on Sunday.

Says Albert Bosma, “It’s my favourite time of the year. I love seeing the yearlings and it is remarkable how much they develop from seeing them on the farms in December to Karaka in January. We’ve been doing the ground work and have an exciting shortlist that we will be targeting  at the sales.”

Albert, Matt and the team have been inspected over 1000 horses in the weeks leading up to the sales.

Says Albert, “There is a strong 2020 draft and we like what we have seen from Westbury Stud, Haunui Farm, Waikato Stud, Windsor Park and Cambridge Stud, amongst others. At Go Racing we target athletic horses which we ultimately want to be Group horses in New Zealand and competitive at the top level in Australia. This approach has worked well for us and our owners in the past.”

Last year Go Racing was the fourth biggest buyer at the sales including a strong Australian buying bench. “As Go Racing has grown we have certainly increased our presence at the sales. We have a strong team and a depth of experience to find our next champions. In addition to Pat, Matt, Sean and myself, our trainers Stephen McKee, Stephen Marsh, Lisa Latta, Chris Waller, John O’Shea, Trent and Natalie Busuttin and Andrew Carston are all on hand to assist in the process. We also have legendary trainer and Melbourne Cup jockey winner Bruce Marsh contributing his knowledge. He’s a superb judge of horses.”

“I don’t think there would be a bigger depth of  team than ours on the ground at Karaka. And our owners benefit from that. We each offer different perspectives and we have some pretty robust debates. But it makes for a good final decision on the horses we select for our owners.”

Go Racing publishes a daily report from Karaka detailing the horses we have bought and the opportunities to get involved. Contact Matt at matt@goracing.co.nz or 0508 GO RACING to be added to the list.
