Go Racing welcomes new Racing Manager, Sean O'Connor

Go Racing is delighted to welcome our new Racing Manager, Sean O’Connor, who starts today.

Sean has a lifelong passion for horses, is an owner and has worked as a raceday strapper alongside his day job where he has previous management experience in the printing and construction industries. He is based in Puketapu, Napier where he lives on a lifestyle block with his wife Angela, a broodmare and assorted other animals.

Says Sean “I couldn’t be more excited about joining the Go Racing team. Being involved in racing all started when I was young. My father was in radio and part of his job was working at the trots on a Friday night at Claudelands showgrounds in Hamilton. I would tag along and when we walked through the gates, it was straight to the bird cage and that where I would stay for the entire night. Mum would ask every birthday and Xmas “What would you like?” The answer was always the same.  “A horse”. To be a Racing Manager with Go Racing feels like a dream, that started so young, has come true.”

Says Albert, “As Go Racing continues to go from strength to strength, we are delighted to welcome Sean to our expanding team and pleased that we can offer our owners an even better racing experience. In the next few months Sean will be getting out and about to meet as many of our owners as possible. Based in the central districts, he will be at most of the races and trials in the area – and beyond. We’re proud of Sean’s new haircut as he recently took part in the Puketapu Speed Shear event to raise funds and awareness to help prevent farming suicide. In fact we are thinking of changing the spelling of his name to Shorn. Good on ya mate.”

Says Sean, “From personal experience, being part of racing horses in syndicates is very much the best way to go. It is not just the thrills and spills of the journey, but the people you meet along the way. I couldn’t be more excited about joining the Go Racing team and I look forward to meeting you. If you‘d like to have a chat to me, please call or drop me an email.”
