Go Racing Group 1 Oaks winner Sentimental Miss is at an important cross roads in her campaign this Saturday.
She races third up in the open handicap 2000 metres at Hastings worth $40,000 and how she performs will determine whether her fourth run is. The options are the $250,000 Group 1 Livamol Classic on the 5th of October in Hastings or the A$750,000 Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap in Sydney on the same day.
Racing Manager Albert has a preference. “These are two great options to have and she will have to win and win well to go to Sydney, but it would be my preference – it’s a handicap so she’ll get a lower weight and it would also give her initial Aussie experience ahead of a planned autumn campaign there.”
In her campaign to date Sentimental Miss ran a very good 7th first up in the Foxbridge Plate at weight for age over 1200 metres which is a distance well short of her best. Second up she was a touch disappointing over a mile at Hawkes Bay but blinkers go back on this weekend which tends to sharpen her up. She also steps up to 2000 metres which is starting to get into the range she really enjoys.
“We expect her to run well and she has a lovely draw of barrier 3, so should be able to take up the spot she wants in the running.
Another exciting Go Racing runner competing this Saturday is Sanctify – also a daughter of Reliable Man.
Sanctify has the Group 1 1000 Guineas as her target this preparation and races at Riccarton in the maiden 1200 metres as a preference over the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes.
“She ran an excellent 2nd first up as a 3YO and running in the maiden 1200 metres this Saturday she should be very competitive. We expect her to progress through to 3YO Stakes company in her subsequent starts and relish getting over more ground as her pedigree suggests.”
Finally, the resurgent Alward races at Eagle Farm this Saturday. The European imported stayer was a last start winner over 1800 metres and competes over that distance again in the A$105,000 open handicap, so should be very competitive with Ryan Maloney riding him again.
