It was extremely heavy going for National Pride to take the win at the highweight at Otaki last Friday.
Visibility was so poor the race commentator was struggling to call the action as runners in the Otaki Maori Maiden Highweight slogged it out in heavy 11 mud.
Trainer Lisa Latta was pleased that her charge was finally showing the form she knew he was capable of.
“He’s always had ability but has been cagey about using it. We’ve tried some different things with him like hurdling which seems to have paid off. I also think he’s a different horse when ridden handier. If he’s allowed to drift back he loses all interest.”
Jockey Buddy Lammas took those instructions on board and is sitting on a highweight hat trick for Go Racing with Taipa Tiger’s win at Rotorua in May, and now National Pride.
National Pride will next race on 4 July in a Rating 75 1600 metres worth $17,500 at Awapuni with Jonathon Riddell on board and then on 18 July at Tarankai in a Special Conditions Maiden over 1800 metres worth $20,000.
