Embracing her name on Saturday, Whatastar ran 2nd in the Hororata Supporters two-year-old at Riccarton over 800 metres.
Says Racing Manager Albert Bosma, “The race was really too short for her and we ran in it instead of trialling her the following week. This was an excellent, if unexpected, performance.”
Whatastar is by Captain Rio out of Marlanda Star making her a half-sister to the Group 3 winning and four-time stakes winner Ististar.
She will now have a week off in the paddock before being set for the $50,000 listed Champagne Stakes over 1200 metres at Riccarton on the 2nd of May. She will have a lead up run over 1000 metres at Riccarton on the 18th of April worth $17,500. Jockey Kylie Williams is impressed with the filly and will ride again.
Latta Stables foreman Andrew Carston said Whatastar has improved leaps and bounds with her summer spell and will only get better as she matures. The family enjoys cut in the track and any rain around on the 2nd of May won’t worry her.
