Central districts trainer Lisa Latta notched up her third win this season for Go Racing with Mighty Solomon on Saturday.
Mighty Solomon resumed on his home course of Awapuni with a thrilling victory, coming from behind in a rating 75, 1200 metres race to win by a bob of the head.
The horse’s stats also make for impressive reading. It’s his third win from just nine starts and, more importantly, his third win from just five starts over that distance.
Jockey Jonathan Riddell has labelled him a “serious racehorse” after travelling third last and wide for the whole race before balancing up in the straight and coming from the rear of the field to run past them in a matter of strides.
The long term goal for Mighty Solomon is the Group 1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham on 24 January but in the meantime his next start will probably be a rating 75 race over 1400 metres in Hawkes Bay on 4 October.
Racing Manager Albert Bosma was pleasantly surprised with Saturday’s success, “His coat hasn’t turned yet and his track work leading up to the race had been nice enough without being sparkling so I’ll admit we were a little surprised by what he did on Saturday but it just goes to show what a horse of enormous ability he is.”
