Lucky Country Heads To The Desert Gold Stakes

Classy 3yo filly Lucky Country will target the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes over 1600 metres at Trentham on the 26th of January as a stepping stone to The Group 1 New Zealand Oaks over 2400 metres on the 16th of March.

An impressive winner of her first two starts this season, showing an explosive turn of foot, she then raced in The Group 1 One Thousand Guineas at Riccarton on the 17th of November. She unfortunately drew barrier 17 and after stumbling out of the gates, had to get back in the running. Beautifully ridden by Jason Waddell, she made a big run to finish 7th, beaten just over three lengths. There was no pace in the race and the leaders dominated and kicked away, so it was a big effort.

She has had a freshen up since the race and is now back in the stable and looks wonderful. She will have one run leading into the Desert Gold Stakes, which we will determine over the next week and it is likely to be over 1400 metres.
